Broken Mirror Manicure

I decided to try something completely new today. This is the result.

This manicure, which I have decided looks like broken mirror shards, was done as a spur of the moment experiment. I was rummaging around in my art supplies and came across a jar of what is essentially tiny pieces of broken glass. It's usually used to simulate sugar on miniature decoden crafts.

I figured why not try it on my nails?

I started with a coat of Essie No Place Like Chrome. I let it dry completely before applying another generous coat of the same color. While my polish was still wet, I stuck my nail into the jar of glass "sugar" and rocked it back and forth to make sure I was getting complete coverage.

Using a paint brush, I brushed off the excess shards and cleaned up some of those around my cuticles.

Posing with silver metal leaf.

This is actually surprisingly wearable. Much more durable than I expected and the texture doesn't bother me at all. Granted, this was done more as an artistic experiment, so I don't really recommend anyone casually wear this but you could if you wanted to. Along with a broken mirror, it also reminds me of ice crystals and diamonds. It's awesome. It would be fantastic for a costume. It makes me think of The White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia.

Have you tried anything crazy lately?

    1. Thanks so much! :)

I was surprised too. The shards stayed on quite well. The only issue was that stuff tended to get stuck to the glass. As long as I was careful though it wasn't an issue.
